KANPUR: Engineers from the Indian Railways and the Indian Institute of Technology here are jointly designing a hi-tech computerised train, equipped with modern facilities, at the Kanpur Electric Loco shed. This train would be exhibited at the proposed ''beauty-queen contest'' to be organised by the Railway ministry in New Delhi on Republic Day.
The computer controlled driving system and advanced sanitary facility are the two main features of the train.
Another important feature is that it consumes less power.
Senior divisional electrical engineer of Anwarganj railway station Ganesh said: "It would be the first of its kind in the country and would offer a complete comfort zone."
Around a dozen engineers from the Railways and the IIT have been working on the design of the train for the past one month. "The design is in its last stage and would be displayed within a week," said Ganesh.
He said "the idea is to ensure all kind of comfort to the driver, responsible for the safe journey of passengers on the train". Ganesh further said that special attention was being laid on safety measures and adequate visibility of the track from the driving cab. Besides, specifically designed sanitary system would ensure advanced hygienic toilets.
A vigilance paddle switch attached in the driver cab would alert the driver and avoid accidents. He said that the specific design of the break system would ensure that the train took less time in coming to a halt than ordinary trains.
The body and engine system are being designed to minimise vibrations and offer maximum comforts. The speed control system would nullify possibility of over-speeding. The driver would have the facility of cold and hot water "driver can avail cold water, tea and even hot meal as desired."
The Kanpur Loco had bagged the runner''s up award in the designing context last year.
